"My paintings are concerned with the visual aspects of light and shadow, color, form and texture. Combined these elements make an image of the world around us. When painted in response to direct observation, they can be defined in the tradition of Naturalism. The process involves a three way "visual dialogue", between the painter, the subject and the painting. The result of this process is an evolution of the image that is arrived at through the development of the initial idea. The very process itself effects the outcome. It is a process that involves not only reacting to and recording the subject, but also such painterly concerns as developing the surface, the "Push-Pull" of the pictorial space and the development of the color field. The end result is a record of a process communicated through paintings and to a degree drawings." |
